Some species of fish can have their flavor remarkably improved if the fish is properly bled right after capture.

While this can be accomplished in a number of ways, many people find this method effective and humane:

  1. Immobilize the fish with a whack to the head.
  2. Take a sharp knife and cut the fish's throat.
  3. Allow the blood of the fish to pump out
  4. Completely kill the fish by pulling the head back to snap the spinal column
